British refrigerated cargo liner DEFOE (2), imo 5087596/ 139m/ 8.462gt/ 1x 6 cyl.2 SCDA Burmeister & Wain oil engine/ 12,5kn; 31/05/1941 completed by Harland & Wolf, Belfast, for Lamport & Holt Line Ltd, Liverpool, for its River Plate service; 1954 GEELONG STAR, Blue Star Line, Ltd, London, who employed her in the North Pacific Coast of North America route; 1958 DEFOE, Lamport & Holt Line Ltd, Liverpool, returning to River Plate service; 1966 ARGOLIS STAR, Astrofeliz Cia. Naviera SA, Piraeus; 10/11/1966 arrived Shanghai for breaking up. Sisterships: DEBRETT, DELANE, DELIUS, DEVIS(1), DEVIS(2), DEFOE(1).
DEFOE (2) replaced another DEFOE (1) which in transit Manchester/Famagusta sank when cargo exploded off Rockall, an small rock situated NW of North Ireland. These type of vessels were revolutionary in design for the time, with supersctruture and housed a small port of the accomadation. I was onboard DEFOE (2) with my father, an Oporto/Leixões pilot, in 1946.
Later an signal mast was added to midlle ship.
